William take part in a montain rescueTape no. 08-05-08/2 Location: There was a time when a royal figure could step foot from a Rolls Royce, shake a few hands, make a speech or two and bid their farewells whilst barely breaking into a sweat. But as Prince William is fast discovering, those days really are long gone! As you can see in this latest exclusive video from Calyx TV, the future king with a penchant for flying Chinook helicopters had his head back in the clouds as he joined a mountain rescue team on exercises in South Wales. As previously reported here, the future Prince of Wales spent yesterday carrying out a series of engagements in the principality. Although restrained in a suit and tie for his ultimately successful game of Wii Tennis, the 25-year-old prince was able to go more casual as – not for the first time in his life – he found himself being lowered down a 200ft cliff at Morlais Quarry near Merthyr Tydfil. William has enjoyed a long association with the mountain rescue services. In December 2005, the second-in-line to the throne joined a Mountain Rescue Team in Llandudno in North Wales at the start of what was to be an exhaustive and ongoing programme of work experience. The prince’s latest mountainside descent came after William visited the headquarters of the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue team in Dowlais. His latest official day of engagements also saw the prince meeting youngsters at the Kids Project at the Pen Dinas Flats in Dinas in the Rhondda Valleys. Sitting on the floor inside a play bus, William teased one little girl who appeared not to know the identity of her new-found friend. The Prince and Princess of Wales' eldest son was heard to repeatedly ask the child "where's the prince?" before suggesting he and she should go outside and look for the royal visitor. Meeting other young fans, William again showed that the training long ago instilled in himself and Harry by their mother did hit home. Chatting with the children, the prince crouched low to the ground so as to be at the same level as his audience. On Wednesday evening, TV viewers in Britain saw Harry too follow the lead of Diana as, meeting wheelchair-bound soldiers, the prince crouched low to the ground so as to be able to speak at eye level with the real stars of the City Salute in London. Today, Prince William is in Blackburn in the North West of England where - back in his formal suit and tie - he's once again been expected to do more than look on from the sidelines, this time joining youngsters in a game of football. |

Sunset Parade at Cranwell.Tape no. 10-04-08/1 Location: While it is today's passing out ceremony at RAF Cranwell which has attracted most of the attention thanks to the appearance (as I'll endeavour to show you later in the day) of Kate Middleton by William's side, last night there was an equally interesting spectacle played out on the parade ground. The Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall and Prince William donned their finest wardrobe for an evening which incorporated a dinner and fly-past. The event, at which Prince Charles was guest of honour in his capacity as Air Chief Marshall, was staged to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the formation of the Royal Air Force, a regiment which has always enjoyed a close association with the Crown. With sincere thanks to Calyx TV, here's an exclusive video bringing you the highlights of last night's event. Meanwhile, I'll be working throughout the coming minutes and hours to bring you full coverage of today's passing out parade, including (bar any major disasters!) a second exclusive video from RAF Cranwell. |

Wings presentationTape no. 11-04-08/1 Location: Friday's passing out of the second-in-line to the throne and his colleagues from RAF Cranwell invariably saw much of the focus fall on the appearance of the prince's girlfriend, Kate Middleton. After the ceremony, however, it was time for official family only to pose for the cameras as the Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall and Prince William braved a wet and windy day in Lincolnshire for a tour of some of the aircraft on display in the grounds of the college at which both future kings spent four months of their lives. This was a time for Prince Charles in particular to step back in time as he was reunited with the red plane in which he learnt to fly. Here's a further exclusive video from RAF Cranwell from Calyx TV offering up some highlights of an important day in the life of Prince William of Wales. |

William opens the new Media Wales offices in CardiffTape no. 08-11-08/1 Location: Prince William’s more accustomed to being in the papers, often for reasons he’d prefer not to talk about. Today, though, the future king with a notorious dislike for journalists was in the offices of one of the most powerful media organisations in Wales. While the rest of his family are on more sombre duties marking this remembrance weekend honouring all those who fought and died on the frontline, William has been celebrating those who report the news. Ending an unusually busy week of public appearances, the prince opened the new offices of Media Wales in Cardiff. During his visit to Six Park Street the prince who was famed for bowing his head in an attempt to foil photographers was very much the centre of attention as he saw for himself the place in which such publications are the Western Mail and the South Wales Echo Sunday are produced. As you can see in this exclusive video from Calyx TV, William was called upon to join rugby legend Gareth Edwards in unveiling a wrought iron Gren cartoon which has been incorporated into the side of the Six Park Street building. Measuring a whopping ten by two metres, and weighing in at a breathtaking 1.3 tonnes, the cartoon by Nia Wyn Jones is the largest Gren ever seen. |

Prince William visits the RhonddaTape no. 08-05-08/1 Location: Bar periodic protests from Welsh Nationalists, the Royal Family are usually assured of a generally warm welcome in the hillsides whenever they step foot in Wales. As you can see in this latest exclusive video from Calyx TV, onlookers discovered Prince William was in a particularly chatty mood as he met up with young and old alike during his latest trip to the region in which he will one day be invested as the 22nd Prince of Wales. Following our previous video showing William taking the plunge with a mountain rescue team, here we see the prince on a more traditional meet and greet with crowds of well wishers who turned out to see the second-in-line to the throne at the Valleys Kids Project at the Pen Dinas Flats in Dinas in the Rhondda Valleys. The project was established to help disadvantaged children and families in the South Wales Valleys. Addressing the subject of her sons' future at the heart of the Royal Family, Diana, Princess of Wales spoke in 1995 about the way in which she was attempting to shape a new generation of royal prince, one who would fully appreciate a world outside the Palace walls. Referring in particular to the way in which she took William and Harry to meet the sick and dying, the princess told Martin Bashir: "....they have a knowledge. They may never use it, but the seed is there, and I hope it will grow because knowledge is power". Whilst Diana was referring to the wider issue of the training of her sons in their roles as the 'heir and the spare', the reality is that the late princess's influence on William and Harry can still be seen today. Although it's only right to also acknowledge the influence of their father, Prince Charles, we can see similarities in the way in which both William and Harry actively engage with their audience, be they young children or wheelchair-bound war veterans or pensioners. As previously noted here - and as you can see for yourself in this new video - during his day-trip to Wales on Thursday the 25-year-old future king was repeatedly seen crouching down on the floor to speak to his young audience. Although a simple gesture, the reality is that before the days of Diana such a move was rarely taken by a member of the Royal Family. It is a fact Prince Charles himself acknowledged in the months after the death of his ex-wife in the Paris crash of August 1997. Having witnessed the Prince of Wales crouching down low to speak to a wheelchair-bound member of the public, an aide mentioned to Charles how lovely it was to see the joyous reaction on the face of the person to whom he spoke as the two conversed at the same level. Prince Charles admitted that it was Diana who'd taught him the value of making such a simple gesture as this, one which removed any danger of the subject of the conversation feeling as if they were being talked down to by the royal visitor. More than two decades since the then Lady Diana Spencer first injected her own unique style onto the public stage, we can see that the seeds she helped to sow have now come to fruition and will hopefully continue to bloom as William and Harry play an increasingly significant role at the heart of 'The Firm'. |

Prince William at Dartmouth at the start of his time with the Navy.Tape no. 03-06-08/1 Location: Prince William appeared to be having a high time on the not-so-high seas today as he appeared before the press on the second day of his two-month attachment with the Royal Navy. Mind you, he had every reason to smile when he discovered what his penalty was for having failed to successfully release the training ship’s anchor. As if there was ever any danger of his fellow students not knowing the identity of the new face in class, Prince William wore an identity tag reading ‘W Wales’ as he made his first public appearance in the uniform of a Sub Lieutenant. Over two years after he graduated from St. Andrews University in Scotland, and just weeks after he received his Wings following an attachment with the RAF, the prince was once again back in the classroom, putting his hand up to ask a question of his tutor aboard the static training vessel Hindostan. During his training today, the 25-year-old prince and future Head of The Armed Forces also joined colleagues aboard another vessel, a Picket Boat, on the River Dart. However, it was during his time aboard Hindostan that the prince discovered he has a lot to learn before he’ll finally be allowed to embark on his tour of duty aboard HMS Iron Duke in the sunny climes of the Caribbean. When it came time for William to slip (i.e. release) the ship’s anchor, the prince failed in his task. Not that the prince who loves to spend his nights in Boujis would have been too distraught by his lack of success, for in line with Navy tradition he now has to buy the whole crew a crate |

Harry medal serviceTape no. 05-05-08/1 Location: Chelsy Davy has joined Prince Harry’s family for the first time at a major public event this morning. The prince’s girlfriend sat alongside Prince William in the front row at a ceremony at Combermere Barracks in Windsor where Harry and other members of the Household Cavalry received a medal from the Princess Royal in recognition of their service in Afghanistan. Also watching the event was the Prince of Wales, wearing a burgundy and navy tie, the colours of the regiment of which both his sons are members. However, for today at least, Prince Charles was almost little more than just another proud father. The duty of pinning the Operation Service Medal on the lapels of Prince Harry and his comrades fell to the Queen's only daughter, the Princess Royal (Anne), in her capacity as Colonel of the Blues and Royals of the Household Cavalry. A total of 170 soldiers were honoured at this morning’s ceremony, following which the regiment marched through the streets of Windsor before attending a service at Holy Trinity Church. |

William plays football (soccer) in NewcastleTape no. 18-10-07/1 Location: The Queen's first cousin, the Duke of Kent, may be feeling a sense of relief tonight.....relief that he's no longer President of The Football Association. After all, what's the world coming to when a senior member of the Royal Family arrives at a venue only to find themselves required to change from their formal suit into tracksuit bottoms and sweatshirt for a rather too vigorous training session with football fans in Newcastle?! And all before the eyes of the massed ranks of the British press! Thankfully, at just 25, Prince William was more than up to the task as he carried out his latest engagement in his capacity as President of the FA. This was William's first official public appearance since he attended the 10th anniversary memorial service for his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, on August 31st. Thursday's engagement saw the future King following in Diana's footsteps, this particular engagement incorporating as it did the prince's role as Patron of Centrepoint, the homeless charity which enjoyed a close relationship with the late princess. With William yet to take on a full diary of official engagements - albeit the life of a fully-fledged, working royal is increasingly beckoning the second-in-line to the throne - the press invariably turned out in force to see the soldier prince leading from the front as part of the FA's Hat-Trick projects in the grounds of West Gate Community College Centre. Although the sight of William jumping up, down and every which way but loose was worth the cross-country journey to the North East of England for those behind the lens, the main point of this particular engagement was to promote the positive aspects of football and the work of Centrepoint to youngsters in the North East of England. Having joined the children for a schoolroom discussion about good sportsmanship, the prince donned his navy blue tracksuit bottoms, trainers and white shirt for a kickabout. Not that the youngsters were too impressed to find they had a traitor in their midst, the Geordie fans telling William he's following the wrong team in supporting Aston Villa rather than Newcastle United. Unfortunately for the prince, it would seem all the hours he spends watching TV and playing football with his friends hasn't paid off just yet. As on his earlier visit to Charlton FC in 2005, William appeared a little embarrassed as he dismally failed to hit the back of the net at least once during his latest very public foray into the sporting arena. Here's hoping he proves to be a lucky mascot when he takes his seat in the Stade de France in Paris on Saturday night for the England rugby team's World Cup Final battle with South Africa. |

William at Scout JamboreeTape no. 28-07-07/1 Location: As his father, Prince Charles, has been heard to muse when reflecting on life as a working royal: "The things I do for England". And so it was that Prince William found himself spending part of Saturday wearing a multi-coloured neckerchief, playing the bongo drums and guiding a masked figure through an obstacle course! The summer months usually see the second in line to the throne spending many of his weekends on the polo field. This Saturday, however, duty beckoned as William joined up with the Queen's first cousin, the Duke of Kent, for an official engagement in Essex. As you can watch for yourself in the the exclusive, light-hearted video of highlights from Calyx TV, the day saw the future King joining in the high jinks at the opening of the 21st World Scout Jamboree in Chelmsford, details of which you may have read here earlier in the week. 25-year-old William and the 71-year-old Duke - an earlier generation of Prince Edward - represented the generations as they appeared at the event which sees young and not-so-young alike from nations across the globe coming together to celebrate the history of the scouting movement. as well as promote and celebrate the traditions and values of one of the proudest youth organisations. This was William’s first significant public engagement for some time, the past few months having seen the Prince continuing his army training away from the public spotlight. No sooner had the star of the show arrived in style aboard a private helicopter than his own sense of style was given a dramatic transformation as he was encouraged to become an honorary scout by donning the multi-coloured neckerchief, the symbol of the scouting movement. While the Duke of Kent offered a more formal royal presence, William was soon into the spirit of things as he met scouts from across the globe and joined in some of the activities, including a brief spell on some drums and a game of catch. It's believed that the Prince will soon be undertaking more and more official engagements as he comes towards the end of an army career which, in reality, was never destined to see him serve on the frontline. However, before then there'll be plenty more opportunities for William and Harry to return to the polo field for a few more chukkas before duty truly does take over their lives. Unfortunately for fans of the brothers, though, it's believed neither of the princes will be at the Cartier International Polo Tournament in Windsor later today (Sunday), at which the Queen will be presenting the prizes. |

Prince William plays polo at the BeaufortTape no. 17-06-07/1 Location: If only school outings had been this exciting for the rest of us! Prince William took on the guise of headmaster yesterday (Sunday) as, just days before he receives armfuls of gifts for his 25th birthday, he was the one giving out the presents to children following a match at the Beaufort Polo Club in Gloucestershire yesterday. While Charles and Camilla were leading the Falklands 25th anniversary commemorations in London, the second-in-line to the throne was enjoying another weekend trip to the polo field. As you can see in this exclusive Calyx TV video, the Prince began the day with a quick change of clothes before he took to the field for another afternoon of chukkas. Having reigned victorious on the field, it was time for the Prince to embark on a little practice at the kind of duty he'll be called upon to perform for decades to come. Standing tall in front of a group of seated schoolchildren, the Prince called out the names of the lucky youngsters who'd won prizes in a competition. As you can see and hear on the above video, in the process the light-hearted Prince showed he's inherited the best aspects of both of his parents, Charles and Diana, as he joked with the children and knelt to the floor to enjoy a personal chat and take a closer look at their prizes. Blues and Royals parade in bowler hatsTape no. 13-05-07/1 Location: On Sunday, though, Prince William and Prince Harry looked the epitome of perfect English gentlemen as they marched in a parade before their Aunt, Princess Anne (the Princess Royal) with other members of the Blues and Royals of The Household Cavalry. Prince Harry was the focus of much of the attention, this likely being one of the final times he'll appear in public before his deployment to Iraq. The Combined Cavalry Old Comrades Association Parade is an annual event which reflects the "proper order of dress" worn by soldiers who were about to go off to fight in the so-called 'Great War' (World War I) of 1914-1918. As is tradition, on the second Sunday in May representatives of the British Army march through the historic London park wearing the gentleman's garb of top hat and suits, complete with a rolled umbrella. While this was William's first appearance at the Parade, it was the second year running that organisers have welcomed Prince Harry. The royal appearance has given a much needed boost in profile to what is still a highly significant tribute to the armed forces by young and old soldiers alike. The Wales brothers were led from the front by a man who is certainly a familiar face to the Royal Family. Following his appearance with the Queen at the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Friday, Camilla's ex-husband, Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles, was once again enjoying the company of royalty as he marched at the head of the Parade as a former member of the Household Cavalry, the sponsors of this year's Parade. The timing of this year's parade could not be more poignant, it coming just a short time before Prince Harry and a number of his military compatriots finally depart Britain for a six-month tour of duty in Iraq. I'm sure we all wish each and every one of them, prince or not, a safe journey and deployment as they serve Queen, Country and, indeed, the world. From The Royalist.com |

Visits St. Marys PaddingtonTape no. 20-09-06/1 Location: Inside St. Mary's Hospital, where he was born over 24 years earlier, Prince William showed the gentle touch he's inherited from both his parents when he gave a cuddle to premature babies during his visit to the Winnicott Baby Unit, more coverage of which we'll have on Thursday. In the meantime, we have a really lovely, world exclusive video package of the Prince arriving and departing the hospital, following which he returned to his army training at Sandhurst. But he was in no hurry to leave, taking time out to undertake a walkabout to say hello to the crowds who'd gathered to cheer him on during what is still a rare solo official appearance from the second-in-line to the throne. It's fascinating to see this brand new footage of William alongside the earlier video we posted showing the Prince aged just nine years of age on a similar style walkabout in Canada with Charles, Diana and Harry. As one of our regular posters commented, William's certainly come a long way since those days when he was a very shy young boy, almost too shy in fact to even look up at the faces of wellwishers. On Wednesday afternoon, the Prince was full of smiles as he chatted with everyone he met, showing the kind of relaxed manner which endeared his late mother to the world. Seeing just how popular he is — and the clear ability he has to revitalise interest in the Royal Family and the institution of monarchy — likely makes the majority of royal fans long for the day the Prince becomes a regular face on the royal rosta of engagements, for clearly he's inherited the best qualities of both Charles and Diana. |
