Prince Harry visits cardiff Hospital.Tape no. 05-06-08/1 Location: Harry reinforced his reputation as the pin-up prince on Thursday as he carried out only his second full day of solo engagements since 2001, and his first day of solo engagements in Wales. The prince received a welcome the likes of which isn't often seen for members of the modern day Royal Family, with children excitedly screaming Harry's name. Schoolgirl Hollie White visibly broke down, such was her emotion at meeting the third-in-line to the throne. Having wiped away her tears following the prince's departure, the youngster explained: "I've never met him before and it was like a thrill to meet him, and a shock." In what may be bad news for Harry's main rival, big brother William, Hollie has her eyes firmly set on a future encounter with the older generation of royals rather than the second-in-line to the throne, saying: "And next time I want to meet Prince Charles and the Queen." Although his visit to Cardiff was full of fun and laughter - Harry clearly takes after his grandfather, Prince Philip, when it comes to his ability to provoke smiles all around - the day had a wholly serious objective, this being to further promote the plight of Aids orphans in Lesotho. Addressing an audience at a local school, Harry spoke of his work in the tiny African kingdom, recalling: "In my own gap year I spent 10 weeks volunteering in Lesotho on a variety of projects. It was one of the most satisfying experiences of my life, and it opened my eyes in so many different ways." Continued the 23-year-old prince, who will spend three weeks in Lesotho next month working alongside members of the Blues and Royals of The Household Cavalry on behalf of his charity, Sentebale: "I don’t need to tell this audience how amazing Lesotho is or how incredible the people are." "And as you all know, if you’ve ever heard a group of Basotho children sing you simply can’t turn your back on them." The prince is clearly a big hit with youngsters both at home and abroad. During a walkabout which lasted around twenty minutes, the prince found himself holding baby Lexie Martin. It was an unexpected encounter which provoked Harry to quip to press and onlookers: "It's not mine". This assertion didn't stop one photographer asking if he was the daddy, prompting another firm and jokey response of "no" from a by now blushing Harry. Recalling her baby's close encounter with royalty, Natasha Martin said of the prince who clearly takes after his late mother Diana in his natural affinity with children: "I asked him if he wanted to hold Lexie and first of all he said no. But then when he did hold her he didn't want to give her back. He's a natural. He's lovely." Considering what a hit he was in the principality in which the Royal Family aren't always assured of a wholly warm welcome, we can only hope it won't be another six years before we see Prince Harry returning to the principality with which he's enjoyed a life-long association. |

Harry in bowler in Hyde Park marchTape no. 11-05-08/1 Location: Prince Harry made the transition from partygoer to typical English gent within a matter of hours this weekend as, the morning after another heavy night at Boujis, Lieutenant Wales marched with other members of the Blues and Royals past his father the Prince of Wales at the annual Household Cavalry Memorial Parade in Hyde Park. The event afforded the 23-year-old prince the chance to be reunited once more with some of the soldiers with whom he served during his ten-week tour of duty in Helmand province in Afghanistan. As witnessed in previous years, Prince Harry and his colleagues donned the traditional ensemble of suits, bowler hats and umbrellas as they marched in recognition of the proud history of both the Household Cavalry and the parade itself, one which has its roots in World War I. The wardrobe donned by the regiment at the parade which traditionally takes place on the second Sunday in May has its roots in the fact that so many men went from the city to the trenches in the dark days of 1914-1918. Up on the dais at the event in London's Hyde Park, Prince Charles looked on proudly as his recently promoted son marched past in a parade which also included the presence of five bands and detachments of the Yeomanry. And not for the first time at this annual event, there was a very familiar face amongst the ranks: none other than the first husband of the prince's second wife Camilla - Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles. |

Harry medal serviceTape no. 05-05-08/1 Location: Chelsy Davy has joined Prince Harry’s family for the first time at a major public event this morning. The prince’s girlfriend sat alongside Prince William in the front row at a ceremony at Combermere Barracks in Windsor where Harry and other members of the Household Cavalry received a medal from the Princess Royal in recognition of their service in Afghanistan. Also watching the event was the Prince of Wales, wearing a burgundy and navy tie, the colours of the regiment of which both his sons are members. However, for today at least, Prince Charles was almost little more than just another proud father. The duty of pinning the Operation Service Medal on the lapels of Prince Harry and his comrades fell to the Queen's only daughter, the Princess Royal (Anne), in her capacity as Colonel of the Blues and Royals of the Household Cavalry. A total of 170 soldiers were honoured at this morning’s ceremony, following which the regiment marched through the streets of Windsor before attending a service at Holy Trinity Church. |

Blues and Royals parade in bowler hatsTape no. 13-05-07/1 Location: On Sunday, though, Prince William and Prince Harry looked the epitomy of perfect English gentlemen as they marched in a parade before their Aunt, Princess Anne (the Princess Royal) with other members of the Blues and Royals of The Household Cavalry. Prince Harry was the focus of much of the attention, this likely being one of the final times he'll appear in public before his deployment to Iraq. The Combined Cavalry Old Comrades Association Parade is an annual event which reflects the "proper order of dress" worn by soldiers who were about to go off to fight in the so-called 'Great War' (World War I) of 1914-1918. As is tradition, on the second Sunday in May representatives of the British Army march through the historic London park wearing the gentleman's garb of top hat and suits, complete with a rolled umbrella. While this was William's first appearance at the Parade, it was the second year running that organisers have welcomed Prince Harry. The royal appearance has given a much needed boost in profile to what is still a highly significant tribute to the armed forces by young and old soldiers alike. The Wales brothers were led from the front by a man who is certainly a familiar face to the Royal Family. Following his appearance with the Queen at the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Friday, Camilla's ex-husband, Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles, was once again enjoying the company of royalty as he marched at the head of the Parade as a former member of the Household Cavalry, the sponsors of this year's Parade. The timing of this year's parade could not be more poignant, it coming just a short time before Prince Harry and a number of his military compatriots finally depart Britain for a six-month tour of duty in Iraq. I'm sure we all wish each and every one of them, prince or not, a safe journey and deployment as they serve Queen, Country and, indeed, the world. From The Royalist.com 15/05/2007 |

Cirencester Polo 2006Tape no. 22-07-06/1-4 Location: Prince Harry and Girlfriend Chelsy Davy at Cirencester Park Polo Club Gloucestershire for the Queen Mother Cup Polo Match. Harry played in pouring Rain. For the second weekend running, we have an exclusive for you: brand new, never-before-seen footage of Prince Harry's longtime girlfriend, Chelsy Davy, as she spent Saturday afternoon with the Prince of Wales and her royal boyfriend at Cirencester Polo Club in Gloucestershire. This is the very first time the 21-year-old student has been filmed with the heir to the throne. Not that Charles doesn't know his son's girlfriend well: although she is officially staying with friends during her holiday in the UK, Chelsy has been given permission by Prince Charles to stay overnight with his young son at Highgrove House whenever Harry spends the weekend home from his army course in Dorset in the South West of England. 21-year-old Chelsy is in Britain for a six-week stay, Harry having invited her to fly over from her home in South Africa to enjoy time as a "normal couple." Unfortunately, the holiday has produced a rollercoaster of emotions for Chelsy, the Sunday newspapers in particular leading the way in printing sensational headlines about Harry's alleged flirtations with other women, usually when he's become intoxicated following a night of hard drinking. As Chelsy appeared at the Ladbrokes tournament at Cirencester on Saturday afternoon, she'd have been aware that her relationship with the third-in-line to the throne was yet again under scrutiny, friends having spoken about the royal romance for a two-page spread in Saturday's Daily Mail newspaper. Although primarily re-running the allegations of recent weeks, including the stories of Coralie Robinson and Catherine Davies, the feature does include some new information about Harry's romance with the girl he long ago declared to be his "first true love." |
