Blues and Royals parade in bowler hatsTape no. 13-05-07/1 Location: On Sunday Prince William and Prince Harry looked the epitomy of perfect English gentlemen as they marched in a parade before their Aunt, Princess Anne (the Princess Royal) with other members of the Blues and Royals of The Household Cavalry. Prince Harry was the focus of much of the attention, this likely being one of the final times he'll appear in public before his deployment to Iraq. The Combined Cavalry Old Comrades Association Parade is an annual event which reflects the "proper order of dress" worn by soldiers who were about to go off to fight in the so-called 'Great War' (World War I) of 1914-1918. As is tradition, on the second Sunday in May representatives of the British Army march through the historic London park wearing the gentleman's garb of top hat and suits, complete with a rolled umbrella. While this was William's first appearance at the Parade, it was the second year running that organisers have welcomed Prince Harry. The royal appearance has given a much needed boost in profile to what is still a highly significant tribute to the armed forces by young and old soldiers alike. The Wales brothers were led from the front by a man who is certainly a familiar face to the Royal Family. Following his appearance with the Queen at the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Friday, Camilla's ex-husband, Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles, was once again enjoying the company of royalty as he marched at the head of the Parade as a former member of the Household Cavalry, the sponsors of this year's Parade. The timing of this year's parade could not be more poignant, it coming just a short time before Prince Harry and a number of his military compatriots finally depart Britain for a six-month tour of duty in Iraq.
