Princess Anne at RYA event LondonTape no. 26-11-09/1 Location: RYA Sailability and Coutts Bank join forces to raise funds for future medal winning talent £35,000 raised for RYA Sailability RYA Sailability, the charity which helps disabled people to sail, hit London on Thursday with a fundraiser hosted by Coutts Bank and with HRH Princess Anne and the 2008 Paralympians as guests of honour. The evening raised over £35,000 which will be split between grants for the purchase of specially adapted boats and the disability racing development programme. Special guests were Skandia Team GBR’s SKUD world champions Alexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell who recently returned from the IFDS Disabled Sailing World Championships in Athens with Gold. Says Alexandra Rickham ' RYA Sailability provides fantastic support at the grass roots club level in getting disabled people to try sailing and experience the sort of exhilaration and freedom that they don't always get on their own. And now Sailability are starting to help train up the potentials for the 2012 Paralympics here in the UK and for Rio in 2016 after that....perhaps Niki and I had better look out!' An auction of donated high value items such as a Bremont watch, a Boodles Diamond necklace, Sunsail holidays and the sail registration number 2012 raised the money from an invited audience of 250 in the beautiful surroundings of the Coutts Garden Court on the Strand. The evening was supported by Coutts Bank and Akvinta Vodka. For more information on RYA Sailability visit www.rya.org.uk/sailability or call 023 8060 4247 |

Badminton 2007Tape no. 03/4/5-05-0¶/1 Location: Princess Anne and her family were out in force on Friday to enjoy the start of one of the most prestigious events in the equestrian calendar: the Badminton Horse Trials in Gloucestershire. Although she's been forced to pull out of the three-day event due to fears the hard ground may cause further injury to her horse, Toytown, British and World Champion equestrian Zara Phillips will likely continue to be a high-profile attendant at this weekend's Trials. As you can see in this exclusive video, before riding to sixth place in the dressage competition on Friday, Zara went through her paces on Toytown before taking time out to do something that is anathema to most members of the Royal Family: signing autographs for fans. Today, however, Zara is first and foremost a professional sportswoman rather than simply a member of the royal family. There was a surprise appearance at Badminton by a young lady who has come to appreciate all-too-well the pressures of life in the spotlight. Prince William's ex-girlfriend, Kate Middleton, almost managed to be just another face in the crowd as she attended the Horse Trials in the company of a young man who I believe to be her brother, James (you may recognise him in the video, his having also accompanied Kate to Prince William's passing out parade from Sandhust last December. As always, though, please don't hesitate to correct me if you believe I've wrongly identified Kate's companion as her brother {Late Note: See the Comments below for further identity of Kate's companion}). However, this was very much Zara's day as she continued to hone her already immense talents in the run-up to the Beijing Olympics of 2008. As usual, the Queen's granddaughter was joined at the latest event in the equestrian calendar by every member of her family: her mother, Princess Anne, brother Peter and their father, Mark, and, of course, her boyfriend Mike Tindall. The World Cup winning rugby star who is widely tipped to marry the Queen's granddaughter is currently on crutches having broken his leg during a recent match. Having been talked up throughout the media as a possible winner at this weekend's Trials, Zara is no doubt disappointed to have had to pull out of one of the most significant and highly anticipated events of the equestrian year. However, having already earned plaudits across the globe by becoming British and World Equestrian Champion at her first attempts, it's clear that Zara will be back very soon to continue her quest to ultimately win Olympic gold in 2008. Harry medal serviceTape no. 05-05-08/1 Location: Chelsy Davy has joined Prince Harry’s family for the first time at a major public event this morning. The prince’s girlfriend sat alongside Prince William in the front row at a ceremony at Combermere Barracks in Windsor where Harry and other members of the Household Cavalry received a medal from the Princess Royal in recognition of their service in Afghanistan. Also watching the event was the Prince of Wales, wearing a burgundy and navy tie, the colours of the regiment of which both his sons are members. However, for today at least, Prince Charles was almost little more than just another proud father. The duty of pinning the Operation Service Medal on the lapels of Prince Harry and his comrades fell to the Queen's only daughter, the Princess Royal (Anne), in her capacity as Colonel of the Blues and Royals of the Household Cavalry. A total of 170 soldiers were honoured at this morning’s ceremony, following which the regiment marched through the streets of Windsor before attending a service at Holy Trinity Church. |

Zara and Anne name the P&O White Sisters Cruise Ships.Tape no. 21-05-03/1-2 Location: Identical P&O ships ADONIA (ex SEA PRINCESS) and OCEANA (ex OCEAN PRINCESS), were named in a unique royal celebration at Southampton. Queen Elizabeth II's granddaughter, Zara Phillips and Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, named the two ships in a dockside ceremony. Zara Phillips, who was undertaking her first formal public engagement, repeated the famous phrase: "May God bless her and all who sail in her" for ADONIA before the godmothers simultaneously pressed a button to release two bottles of champagne against the bows of the ship during a ceremony watched by 1,800 invited guests.
